So those of you who know who I work form, (Blue Lake Casino & Hotel). I was just approached by upper management about putting on a tabletop gaming con. (Not now but in like 9 months) This would be D&D, card games (Magic and Yu-gi-oh) and of course Warhammer and Warhammer 40K. There would be vendors and tournaments and the what not. I will talk to Barry about this but I wanted to know from the community, whats the intrest? whats a fair price for a 1 or 2 day pass? what would you like to see?

I think is a grand oppertunity to try and do our tournament that we had talked about at the last club meeting. The casino can offer space and with the new motel add on, there is a place to stay for anybody who is traveling from out of town.

Count me in for the planning. Maybe we can get about two or three more people who can dedicate themselves to the planning and have a meeting to go over some of the preliminary ideas and feasability?

I would be interetested in attending at the very least, and possibly coordinating (especially if that gives a discount to the entry fee).

To make it work, I think we would need to get at least some participation from all the warhammer clubs within 5 hours drive.  Then we start getting enough people to make items like room reservations and group discounts at the hotel worth it.

Or maybe I'm in left field.  How big is the casino?

It's good sized, and they have an area designed perfectly for something like this.  I would at the very least participate and spread the word.

The palace is massive we have what we call bingo tables that are like 6 by 3 feet and we can fit an absurd amount in there. Plus if we can get games workshop to send some reps I think this would be good.

I'm going to be in NCRP on sunday around 3 if people want to come give me some ideas or help coordinate the league involvement

Lucas, what role do you want the club to take in this? Are we going to assist with the organization or are you simply looking for input and ideas?

Right now I'm looking for ideas my boss would love the club's involvement. Right now however they just want a feel for how successful this will be so if I get ideas for costs and tourney ideas I can bring that to them and get the ok to put this on. From there the clubs involvement can be pushed forward.

Well, I don't know if it's an issue or not but it would certainly need to be in an all ages area of the casino in order to be sucessful.  And to make it more proftiable it might be a good idea to offer some incentive for the attendies (or their parents) to enter the main casino area. Like a drink voucher or something like that.

This sounds like a great idea, I'll help if I can.

It might be a good idea to talk with the folks from Wizards of the Coast for your card & role play.

We'll the casino will decide what to do with that but a drink voucher is a good idea. I wasn't able to make it on sunday but I did meet greg on saturday and he, barry, and I talked and worked out some ideas, as well as called around to see intrest. Prices were discussed as were tournament and vendor ideas. Lot of great ideas really. I gave this all to my superiors so we will see where it goes from there.

I don't know if this is the norm or not, but in the one 40k tourney I've been to they ran a 3 round tourny.  Each round was a different scenario, one featuring each of deployment and mission rules.  In addition each had a special objective like 2pts to whoever offed the unit worth the most points or 3pts for killing the enemy character worth the most pts.  I really enjoyed the way this was run.  It prevented someone with a troop heavy army from rolling objective based missions each turn.  Just a thought, and it would work for fantasy also, with a few minor tweaks.

thats a good idea, I know that we will be doing double elimination tourneys (you can lose twice before you are out) as far as fantasy goes I have no Idea on the rules for that.

Also what are normal prizes? a XXXX point army of their choice for wining? forge world items?

Lucas, I spoke with the Medford guys when they were down and they told  me they will make the trip down for the convention.

What do you think about setting up a tutorial table for people who want to learn how to play WHFB and 40K? We can try and get club members to take turn manning the tables throughout the event and be available for potential new players to teach them the game.

Thats a great idea. here is some news. the official new days are January 7th, 8th, and the 9th. I'll most likely begin a website next month which should be up by the end of that month. Also we spoke about tournament layouts, we will be doing the 'Ard Boyz tourney style for 40k as for fantasy I don't know yet.

This is definatly a cool thing.

Some suggestions I have are:

1. We really need to reach out to gaming clubs around the area. I think any within a 3-4 hour drive is doable. I know we've reached out to Medford, but how about  the guys up in Crecsent City, Redding, Santa Rosa. Are there any we're missing does medford have more than 1 gaming club?

2. Reach out to Games Workshop and Forge World to see if  they would have any involvemnet in something like this. I have a friend that worked for GW and might know who the Bayarea GW regional manager is.

So I notice that nothing has happened in this thread for 7 months.  Is the gaming con at Blue Lake still happening?

Hey Ecaep!

Right now we are getting the logistics done.  Lucas and I are both co-workers.  Right now we have some details but we're looking to present/discuss some things we have at the Dec. 5th meeting.
